GENDER EQUALITY PLAN OF THE BUT 2022-2024

PROCESS GENDER AUDIT - GEP

On the basis of the Equal Opportunities Audit carried out in September-December 2021, the GEP (Gender Equality Plan) was processed at BUT. The Gender Equality Plan is a tool for systematic ensuring that the institution pays attention to the subject of equality of opportunities in the institution. It is a set of objectives to be achieved in a specific timeframe, activities and measures to ensure that the objectives are met. The Gender Equality Plan represents a commitment for the institution to promote equal opportuunities and it is part of human resources development and management strategies.

The document was discussed in January 2022 in the management of the BUT and with faculties and institutes management and was submitted to them for comments. Their comments were incorporated and in February 2022 the GEP was discussed and approved by the management of the BUT and reported to the Academic Senate of BUT. The GEP is processed in the CZ/EN as it imposes an obligation on the institutions set by the European Commission and, including the commitment of management to ensure its fulfilment, is published bilingually on the BUT website.

We thank all those involved in the preparation and drafting of the Gender Equality Plan at VUT. Whether by participating in group talks and individual sessions, as well as comments and expert advice.

GENDER AUDIT REASONS?

Horizon EuropeHorizon Europe projects bring new demands for gender equality. Public universities and research organisations need to have the Gender Equality Plans (GEPs) developed while taking the gender dimension into account in the very content of research and innovation. Gender Equality Plans will be one of the eligibility conditions (eligibility criterion) for project promoters to Horizon Europe, starting with calls closing in 2022, by which time there will be a transitional period.

Other projects – Other projects in the field of national subsidies with future forecast of Gender audit obligations. (TA CR, GA CR, OP VVV etc.)

HR Award (HRS4R) – According to the Action Plan from 9/2020, the BUT has this issue in several action goals. The BUT has committed to presenting a solution to this issue by January 2023. For example: Continuous and effective introduction of work diversity in connection with the work and private life balance into the BUT’s culture and practice.

REALISATION OF THE GENDER AUDIT FOR THE BUT

The audit of equal opportunities for the BUT has been conducted since June 2021 by the non-governmental organisation Gender Studies, o.p.s., which has extensive experience with a similar type of analysis.

  • Culture of BUT working environment (outside, inside view)
  • Career development
  • Recruitment/ Selection
  • Representation of women and men in leadership positions
  • Measures against sexual harassment
  • Gender dimension in science and research with emphasis on specifics of BUT
  • Gender dimension in teaching
  • Postdocs
  • Doctoral studies

The whole process at BUT is covered by the HR department.
The audit will be processed by 31.12.2021. For further information, please contact Ing. Bohdana Šlégrová or Mgr. Veronika Slezáčková (HR department).

WHAT IS GENDER AUDIT?

This is an analysis of the institution functioning in HR terms. The audit covers recruitment, education, evaluation, remuneration, maternity and paternal leave management and the institution culture as a whole. The purpose of the audit is to map and, where appropriate, improve working conditions and opportunities for work and private life balance, both women and men, at different stages of life.

The audit is carried out using a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods. Quantitatively, it is an analysis of internal materials and a questionnaire survey (in the case of BUT, conducted under HR Award in 2020). The qualitative part consists of individual reviews with selected key employees and group interviews (so-called focus groups) with representatives of certain groups of employees (e.g. parents of young children, different levels of management, employees 55+ ...).

The audit results in a detailed final report on the state of the institution in the area. The conclusions and recommendations from the audit will serve as a basis for the organisation to develop the Gender Equality Plans (GEP).
