BUT has announced the best athletes for the year 2024
On Wednesday, January 29, the award ceremony for the best athletes of Brno University of Technology (BUT) took place. The athletes, who had entered the Athlete of the Year 2024 poll, gathered in the Stucco Hall of the Rectorate of BUT. 30 athletes attended the event, where Vice-Rector Iveta Šimberová, Vice-Rector Miroslav Doupovec, and Bursar Daniela Němcová congratulated them on their sporting achievements. The event was hosted by CESA Director Hana Lepková.

Students at Brno University of Technology have a wide range of sports opportunities for both enjoyment and development. And they are really good at sports. In 2024, they also excelled in several competitions. A total of 39 talented students passed through the Athlete of the Year 2024 poll. Based on their outstanding results in association and academic competitions, 10 top athletes were selected. In addition, three top academics from Brno universities and two exceptional para athletes were honored. During the award ceremony, academic champions in individual and team sports, as well as successful representatives who made a name for themselves in university and European competitions, also shone.

The first place in the poll went to the talented shooter Martina Matějková from the Faculty of Business at BUT. In 2024, Martina became Junior European Champion and Team World Champion. She also represented the university at the AMS in sport shooting in India.
Second place was occupied by Lucie Dittrichová from the Faculty of Civil Engineering at BUT, who excelled in orienteering. Third place went to Jakub Homola from CESA BUT for his performances in triathlon.

Among the para athletes, Veronika Kamenská, a graduate of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication at BUT and a student at the Faculty of Business at BUT, was honored for her representation in para karate. Petr Frýba from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication at BUT ranked in the poll thanks to his performances in para swimming.
The best academic athletes in Brno University Sports were nominated from the AMS participants: Jakub Kostelecký (Faculty of Civil Engineering at BUT) for sports clay pigeon shooting, Adam Jonáš (Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication at BUT) for orienteering and Jakub Kočí (Faculty of Civil Engineering at BUT) for speed skating.
