Majáles 2025: The new royal couple of BUT is the pair from FP and FEKT

The king and queen who will represent BUT at the Brno Majáles this year were decided by a vote of the jury and the general public at Wednesday's coronation ceremony. The queen is Karolína Cíchová from the Faculty of Business and the king is Václav Bařinka from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication Technologies.

The title of the new royal couple of Brno University of Technology was contested by five candidates for king and four candidates for queen. The final decision was based on their knowledge and skills during quizzes and quick challenges, as well as their charisma, which played a role in debates and individual performances. The winners also gained the favor of the public, who participated in the selection through voting on the VUT Majáles Instagram profile.

Queen Kája, Karolína Cíchová, is a bachelor's student in Business Economics at Faculty of Business and Management at BUT and she has a passion for social events. Besides having experience in organizing various events, she also believes that her energy and determination will make this year’s Majáles an unforgettable experience. “I was part of Majáles last year, and I was tempted to experience it from the other side as a queen,” she shared in her introduction.

For her individual discipline, where she had to showcase something unique about herself, she wore a traditional folk costume and presented the beauty of folklore.

King Vašek, Václav Bařinka, is a master's student in Audio Engineering at Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication at BUT. Last year, he was part of the royal guard and discovered that Majáles is an amazing student event full of opportunities. “I want to show that even technical students can be social beings and make people see not only our brains but also our friendliness and humor,” he said in his introduction.

For his individual discipline, where contestants had to showcase their talents, he had a clear choice—he picked up his guitar and won over the audience with his performance.

Now, the winners' task is to assemble their royal entourage and represent the university at various pre-Majáles events. They will surely appreciate the support of their fellow students, especially during the raising of the maypole in Náměstí Svobody (April 8) and during the Majáles parade through Brno and the main festival (May 10), where they will compete for the title of Majáles King and Queen against representatives from other Brno universities.
