Orientation Day boosted the adaptation of international students at BUT

Brno University of Technology (BUT) cares about international students and strives to ensure that they feel at home at the university. Therefore, on September 24, on the occasion of the start of the academic year, the Rectorate held an Orientation Day for newly admitted students in the English full-degree programs. The Internationalization Department introduced students to various student organizations and the international ambassador network, and provided them with useful information about life at BUT.

During the introductory part of the event, representatives from Admission Office introduced international participants to the wide range of services they provide to both current and incoming international students at BUT. Participants had the opportunity to get acquainted with student organizations such as ESN VUT, BEST Brno, or IAESTE. At the same time, members of the renewed international ambassador network were introduced, which serves as a contact point for international students at most faculties across the university.

The second part of the program took place with the participation of the Brno Expat Centre (BEC), supported by the city of Brno. BEC, with which BUT closely cooperates in supporting international students and staff, provided a wealth of useful information. Participants learned about legal advice on student visas, extending their stay in the Czech Republic, and entering the Czech labor market.

Admission Office at BUT serves as the main contact point for international students, whether they are considering studying or have already enrolled at BUT. Their goal is to be the first step in providing relevant, clear information about the admission process, the recognition of previous education from abroad, and other services the university offers to students.

The Orientation Day was a pilot event focused on full-degree international students, and the Internationalization Department already sees that organizing such events is a key step in increasing the interest of international applicants in studying at BUT and in developing the internationalization of the university environment.
