Can a loan be renewed?

To renew a loan, first you must log in to the catalogue. Then you get to your account via the upper catalogue menu.

Next click on the List of loans containing all your current loans.

Each loan has a serial number. Clicking on it you will learn about the loan details.

If enabled for a particular loan, a Renewal link will appear, which initiates a renewal if clicked.

Multiple loans can be renewed all at once by clicking on the Renewal mode in the upper submenu.

Renewals are defined by the following rules:

  • Only documents of certain statuses can be renewed.
  • Normally, a book may be renewed twice, but not for a time exceeding twice the standard loan period: this means that if you borrow a book with a 4-week status, renewing it twice, you may keep it for a maximum of 12 weeks.
  • The new date of return begins on the date of renewal not on the original date of return. This means that if you renew a loan the next day after borrowing it, the new return date will be one day after the old return date.
  • A loan cannot be renewed if the book has been reserved by another reader.
  • A loan cannot be renewed if the new return date would be the same or earlier than the current return date. (A loan cannot be renewed on the date of lending).
  • A loan cannot be renewed if the reader has not returned books due, has unsettled fines, if his registration is about to expire or his account is blocked. This means, for example, that a loan after its return date cannot be renewed.
