BUT hosted the Congress of Art Historians

Every three years, the Czech Association of Art Historians in cooperation with universities organises the Congress of Art Historians. This year's eighth edition was held on 12-14 September in Brno, where the Department of Art Theory and History of the Faculty of Fine Arts of Brno University of Technology and the Seminar of Art History of the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University shared the hosting.

The overarching theme of this year's congress was The End (and Beginnings) of Times. Experts from the BUT participated significantly in the programme, presenting their current projects and research at the congress.

Jakub Stejskal sponsored and chaired the session entitled Digital Art History: Revolution or Tradition?, which also featured a presentation by Jana Horáková, a collaborator of the FFA, who is a member of the Faculty's Arts Council.

Ladislav Jackson replaced Milena Bartlova in chairing the session The End of Art History?, which built on previous conventions, and presented his own research on inequalities, social stratification and social barriers to study among students at the School of Architecture at the Academy of Fine Arts between 1910 and 1940. He also introduced the only woman who studied at the School of Architecture at this time, Kdenia Grisogono, who later contributed to the interiors of the embassy in Belgrade and the construction of La Défense in Paris.

A social evening was also held in BUT, which among other things was composed for networking and professional discussions. It was opened by Ladislav Jackson and Markéta Žáčková from FFA. The proceedings of the congress will be published in a collection of papers, which regularly since 2004 has always reflected current trends and challenges in the field of art history.
