Education of future for professionals. BUT opens applications for MSc.

Gain comprehensive and up-to-date education in civil engineering or cybersecurity within a relatively short time? This is the offer of the Master of Science (MSc.) programs at Brno University of Technology. It responds to professionals seeking to enhance their expertise but are too busy for traditional long-term study programs. Applications for the three MSc. programs for the 2025/2026 academic year are open until March 31.

The MSc. programs at BUT are designed for qualified professionals from companies and organizations, as well as motivated individuals aiming to deepen their knowledge, expand qualifications, or improve their CVs for careers in civil engineering or the ever-growing field of cybersecurity. These programs complement traditional higher education with flexible and accessible formats recognized across the EU.

Courses in these programs are delivered in a modular, hybrid format combining in-person teaching, e-learning, self-study, and individual consultations. A key benefit of these programs is the micro-credentials, awarded for completing individual educational modules.

“Due to technological advancements and the exponential growth of knowledge, all fields of human activity are undergoing extraordinary changes that traditional university programs cannot fully address. This creates demand for new types of continuing education focused not on depth of knowledge but on graduates' competencies relevant to the current market,” commented Vítězslav Máša, BUT Vice-Rector for Continuing Education and Quality.

MSc. Programs at the Faculty of Civil Engineering (FCE BUT)

Master of Science in Civil Engineering

“This new program addresses the long-term shortage of experts in civil engineering on both the Czech and international markets and meets strong demand from the private and public sectors. It is most suitable for applicants in managerial or other positions in construction firms or public administration whose formal education is in fields like economics, law, or humanities,” explained Rostislav Drochytka, Dean of FCE BUT and the MSc. program guarantor.

Students will gain theoretical and practical knowledge in the design, implementation, and operation of structures in line with current trends, learning about modern technologies and sustainable construction practices.

This program allows construction experts to broaden their expertise in sustainable building engineering. It focuses on topics such as circular economy, material recycling, waste management, public health protection, wastewater treatment, and rainwater management. Key subjects include clean energy utilization and energy efficiency in buildings.

A minimum of a bachelor's degree is required for admission. Applicants without a university degree can attend modules without earning the MSc. degree but will still receive internationally recognized micro-credentials. Early applicants by January 31, 2025, benefit from reduced tuition fees.

Master of Science in Cybersecurity (proCyber)

“There are several reasons we decided to launch this program. One is the success of our bachelor's and master's Information Security programs, which have long been in high demand. This motivated us to further develop the field of security. The university leadership also supports professional education. Moreover, companies have expressed a need for more cybersecurity experts,” said Jan Hajný, guarantor of the proCyber program at FEEC BUT.

The program has also received positive feedback from the National Cyber and Information Security Agency (NÚKIB). “The shortage of cybersecurity experts is a global issue, and the Czech Republic is no exception. We welcome the unique program prepared by BUT, focusing primarily on training professionals,” said Alena Tovarňák Leciánová, Director of NÚKIB's Training and Education Department.

The proCyber program targets mid- and senior-level cybersecurity professionals, offering interdisciplinary education in cryptography, hardware, software, and technical law. It features top-notch university facilities, including the BUT Cyber Arena (BUTCA), and involves experts from academia and industry.
