European University Fencing Cup 2024
On 12 May, Brno University of Technology will host the first trial tournament of the European University Fencing Cup for men and women. The event will take place under the patronage of the rector of BUT Ladislav Janíček and is part of the celebration of the 125th anniversary of the founding of the university.The tournament is open to students of European colleges and universities. The preliminary rounds up to the quarter-finals will take place at the the Sokol Brno 1 complex (Kounicova 20). The semi-final and final rounds will be held at the Rector's Hall of the Brno University of Technology (Antonínská 1) from 17:00.
"The combination of sport and a historical building will definitely be a great experience both for the fencers and the audience," said Václav Kundera, tournament director.
The final battles will include a short performance by historical fencers, a lecture on the materials used to make today's weapons and an exhibition of historical fencing artefacts. Come and support your friends or simply enjoy a pleasant afternoon full of this sophisticated sport.

- Registration: fencers must show up at registration at least 60 minutes before the start of the competition
- System of the competition: one round of pools, direct elimination, final 8
- Rules: competition rules according to the FIE rules
The fencing tournament is neither an exception nor a rarity, the Centre of Sports Activities offers a wide range of sport activites and events. Beyond teaching, CESA organizes and hosts various sports competitions, events such as the BUT Sports Week or Boulder Open Air, winter and summer courses and provides activities for student associations, sports clubs and organizations. BUT has its representative teams in national university leagues and representative committees also compete in competitions abroad – international student tournaments and EUSA, FISU competitions. The University has its own sports facilities with a generous training area of about 30,000 m2. In total, CESA offers 58 sports and more than 90 specialisations at several performance levels, some activities are also specially announced for students with physical and health problems and limitations.
The tournament is a part of the BUT 125th anniversary program.
