Gregor Johann Mendel and 190th anniversary of his birth

20^th July 2012 will pass 190 years since the birth of Gregor Johann Mendel – the man who discovered the laws of genetics and heredity (founder of the laws of genetics and heredity). Brno University of Technology will join these celebrations by several activities and events.

Professor’s Ivan Kolečko students from Faculty of Architecture will hold exhibition of their studio work on Mendel’s garden in the refectory of the Augustinian monastery in Old Brno (Staré Brno) on the 3^rd June 2012.

Faculty of Mechanical Engineering will organize MENDEL ’12 – 18^th International Conference on Soft Computing, conferences will take place on 27^th to 29^th June 2012. http://www.mendel-conference.org/

Faculty of Chemistry will hold specialized lecture on genetics for students from the Secondary Technical School of Chemistry.

Faculty of Business and Management will prepare a workshop to commemorate G. J. Mendel’s work as a member of the Board of directors at the Mortgage Bank of Margraviate Moravian.

BUT’s students can find the reference of G. J. Mendel at Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication where a working group from the Institute of Biomedical Engineering is working on computer analysis of genomic and proteomic data. Students may also meet with modern technologies used in genetic laboratories in the study program “Biomedical Technology and Bioinformatics” and “Biomedical Engineering and Bioinformatics”.
