Personalities from BUT received awards for their long-term work and the fight against covid

On 5 May 2021, the selected academics and BUT staff received gold and silver commemorative medals from the Rector in small groups and with special measures. These are normally handed over during the Academic Assembly in November, the current situation has required an extraordinary approach. The coronavirus crisis affected not only the form of the ceremony, but also the number of the awarded. In addition to long-term merits for perfect work, those who contributed to managing the pandemic last year were also awarded voluntarily and often at the expense of a large amount of their free time.

Rector Petr Štěpánek thanked all the awarded for their commitment to teaching, research and assistance in this time. "Diamonds are also created under pressure, so I believe that in the end we will come out of this test as individuals and the whole university stronger. The year 2020 helped us realize how valuable the health of us and our loved ones is, how important social ties and interpersonal relationships are, just about everything we have taken for granted so far," the Rector stated in a letter replacing the 21st ceremonial Academic Assembly, which was to take place last November, and addressed it not only to colleagues but also to students and the public.
