Jan Šrámek from the Video Studio and a graduate Veronika Vlková, both from the Faculty of Fine Arts at BUT, won first place in the Illustrator of the Year category yesterday in the Czech Grand Design competition. The jury was fascinated by their illustration work for the book Apolenka from the Blueprint (Romana Košutková, Gallery of Fine Arts in Hodonín). Jan Šrámek has won this award in the past and in tandem with Veronika Vlková they also scored at the International Children's Book Fair in Bologna 2020. Their award-winning works include, for example, illustrations for the book This is the Metro, Cheers! 

Czech Grand Design is elected by members of the Academy of Design of the Czech Republic, who assess works in the field of fashion, jewellery, photography, illustration, product and graphic design. This year, a total of 84 authors sought this award. The recording of the handover can be viewed here.

This year's award-winning book Apolenka from the blueprint is a fairy tale for children about the technology of traditional blueprint production. It is a project of the Children's Studio from the Hodonín Gallery, which will acquaint the visitor with the phenomenon of this traditional craft and production technique in a simple and attractive form.
