The Brno University of Technology Rector Ladislav Janíček and Vice-Rector for Internationalization Iveta Šimberová had visited Wien University of Technology, where they were welcomed by the Rector of the University, Sabine Seidler, and the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Kurt Matyas. Tuesday’ meeting thus started the planned visits of partners of the European University Alliance EULiST.

“We need to be more open to the world. In Europe, the concept of building international university alliances as a network of higher education cooperation is being promoted as part of the development of the global higher education area. Therefore, I am very glad that our university is also involved in such networks,” said Rector of BUT Ladislav Janíček.

By signing the Consortium Agreement, BUT became part of the EULiST network, a European university alliance of nine partners. The member universities geographically cover all areas of Europe: the north (Sweden and Finland), the west (Austria and Germany), the east (Slovakia and the Czech Republic) and the south (Greece, Italy, and Spain). “EULiST provides an international platform for sharing knowledge and experience in higher education and research but also concerning the main topics in terms of social responsibility that universities can contribute to strengthening European competitiveness and social development. At EULiST, we aim to build a stable, long-term, and strategic partnership with an emphasis on education, research, and innovation,” presented the vision of EULiST Mariana Tesařová, manager of the cooperation with European universities at BUT.

The partners of the meeting also agreed, while considering the geographical proximity of both universities, on the importance and usefulness of the mutual contacts, cooperation, and support for the mobility of students, academics, researchers, and staff. “An important part of the development of our relations is a cooperation on joint projects, which is already happening between some of our workplaces,” added Janíček. The Rector invited the management of Wien University of Technology to visit BUT, where it is expected to continue discussing specific forms of mutual relations and cooperation.
