The new project will improve wound healing. It will also provide the Third World countries with cheaper products.

The team of Biomaterials, which makes a part of the group of Advanced Polymer Materials and Composites at CEITEC BUT and is supervised by Lucy Vojtová, will be engaged in the research of new bioactive hemostatic and collagen-cellulose wound regeneration. The experts involved in this four-year scientific project that will run from January 2019 will cooperate, for example, with the Veterinary Research Institute or the Veterinary and Pharmaceutical University of Brno. Improvement of current products is expected to reduce their prices and to promote their expansion into the Third world countries.

"In addition to improving product features we also expect the production costs to fall. This is possible thanks to the application guarantors of this project, who will supply new input materials and who have long-term experience with haemostatics. This should promote the expansion of the developed products in domestic health care facilities and also ensure their competitive export prices. We believe that the prices of our products will make them marketable in the developing countries where similar products are not affordable now,” added Lucy Vojtová.

The researchers engaged in the new applied research will focus on the preparation of new porous biomaterials based on collagen and cellulose. These materials should find their multipurpose applications in medicine and replace the current materials. Specifically, they want to create functional samples of haemostatics, covers for difficult healing wounds and biologically active wound covers stimulating healing.
