VUT Week of Sports 2024
The beginning of the academic year at the Brno University of Technology was, among other things, dedicated to movement. As is tradition, the Center for Sports Activities (CESA) prepared a diverse range of sports activities for students and staff during the first week of the new academic year.
A total of 40 different activities were prepared. However, due to adverse weather conditions, eight of them had to be canceled for safety reasons. These included water activities (dragon boats, river rafting), hiking, and mountain biking.
The remaining activities went excellently, and students and staff enjoyed team sports such as badminton, volleyball, futsal, table tennis, as well as individual sports like TRX, pilates, yoga, bouldering, tabata, workout, tennis, disc golf, various forms of compensatory exercises, and various measurements, such as InBody and Diers.
In some activities, athletes could compete in tournaments or multi-discipline events, while in others, free exercise was available. Everyone could choose what suited them best.
The traditional VUT Mile 1899m race was also part of the event. This year, five relay teams and 17 individual runners competed for the win. Records were even broken in three categories. Among the women, Aneta Fritzová from FP won with a time of 7:28.02 as a student, and Kateřina Pala from CEITEC won with a time of 7:31.22 among employees. Among the men, Michal Šmída from FEKT won the student category with a time of 5:32.88, and Jaroslav Kadlec from CEITEC won with a time of 6:52.87 among employees. The Kavalíři from VUT won the student relay with a time of 5:09.73, and CEITEC won the employee relay with a time of 5:48.09.
A fresh novelty revealed during the Week of Sports was a brand new disc golf course in the outdoor area under Palackého Hill. All sports enthusiasts will be pleased to know that the course, located in the outdoor boulder arena area, is freely accessible.
More than 450 participants took part in the Week of Sports, including over 330 students and around 120 staff members. The most active faculty was FSI, followed by FEKT and FIT. Another 120 participants had signed up for activities that were canceled due to the flood situation. Despite the cancellations, this year's Week of Sports slightly exceeded last year's attendance.
The Center for Sports Activities at VUT thanks all athletes for their participation and is already looking forward to the next year. In the meantime, those interested can participate in the Vokolo Priglu running race, which will take place on Saturday, October 12.
