Original Abstract
Polymeric particulate composites with thermoplastics, especially polypropylene (PP) matrix with mineral fillers, are of great practical importance due to their simple possibility of modifying mechanical properties and reducing the price/volume ratio of the resulting material. Good final dispersion of the filler particles plays very important role in material properties. The system PPH + CaCO3 was used in the presented study. The commercial available CaCO3 nanoparticles are of tens nm dimension but they typically form much bigger agglomerates with the size up to 10 microns. The plasma treatment by ambient air operating surface discharge was used for the filler particles activation. Using this activated filler material, composites with well dispersed particles with agglomerates smaller than 100 nm were prepared. The influence of morphology on mechanical properties was studied and compared with the commercially available system.
