Specialization: Movement Activities by Health Limitations

The course will prepare the students in such a way that they will obtain a comprehensive overview of the possibilities regarding movement activities for citizens with health limitations. On the basis of previously acquired knowledge and skills, they will be able to bring people with a handicap closer to an active way of life.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will gain an overview of the possibilities regarding movement activities for people who are weakened, ill or have recently suffered an injury. Within the framework of the course, they will gain knowledge and skills which they will need to become qualified advisors and organizers of suitable activities and events for this group of the population.

Prerequisites

Practically applicable knowledge and skills from the studied physical training courses and biology and medical courses within the framework of the student's bachelor's studies

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Exercises are focused on practical topics presented in lectures.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Credit awarding:
passing of two continuous test 20 points (6th and 9th week). Working out of the term work 20 points. Defence of the term work 10 points. Passing the final exam 50 points. Total - maximum 100 points.
Attendance at the lectures and seminars.
Accomplishment of two continuous semestr works.
Active part at the practical lessons with seniors (15 hrs).

Form of the examination and the final classification of the subject:
Submission of an active lifestyle programme which is focused on a specific health limitation (50 points), and the passing of a written exam (50 points).

Course curriculum

- The term 'Sport for all' and its mission. Performance and enjoyment.
- Kinds of health deficit. Forms of remedial physical education and sports for all.
- The specifics of the individual forms, their adaptation to those with weaker health.
- Methodology of working with people with weaker health.
- Exercise with one's own body and with equipment: large balls, exercises for a healthy back, Body and mind - Pilates, power yoga, stretching and relaxation, exercising on a balance platform, on Bossa, with Flexi bars, with rubber adapters and rubber bands.
- Exercise at a fitness centre.
- Indoor cycling and Cardio fitness exercises on aerobic training machines - Concept 2 rowing training machines, orbitreks, stationary bikes, bicycle ergometers, steppers, treadmills.
- Nordic walking.
- Swimming for health and fitness. Aqua fitness and aqua gymnastics - movement activities in the water.

- Practical tuition - suitable kinds of sporting activities according to the individual's current state of health, activities for active lifestyle programmes for members of the population suffering from health limitations.

Aims

The aim of the course is also to learn to prepare, lead and organize - at the level of a trainer/instructor - sporting events for all, with the inclusion of citizens with weaker health, and to show them the way to a full life.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Attendance of lectures and practical lessons (bpth 90 %). Absence excused only if the medical confirmation is submitted.
