Individual projects determine what information should be included in the Data Management Plan (e.g. Horizon Europe [pdf template]). This document, which is often attached to the application for support, normally contains the following sections:
Administrative data
- basic information
- what the project is, contact information, etc.
- research abstract
- legislative designation (e.g. institutional directive)
Data collection
- what data are being generated, what is the expected volume
- how the data will be collected (questionnaire, measurements,...)
- use of methodologies or standards
- how the data will be organised, named, versioned
Documentation and metadata
- how to read or interpret the data
- what metadata standards are used
Ethics and legal regulations
- personal data
- consents to data storage, data sharing, etc.
- licence conditions – data of another, own data
Storage and backup
- responsibility
- intensity (financial costs)
- access for others (co-investigators?)
- data security;
Long-term protection
- long-term protection planning
- method of data protection/removal
- long-term protection costs – financial and other
Data sharing
- how the data will be shared
- under what conditions
- from when to when?
Responsibility and resources
- responsibility for DMP management
- additional responsibility for specific parts
- determination of financial resources – how much does it cost to preserve the data?
