New BUT Start-up: Forenzio offers expert consultancy in the construction industry

(PR, Brno, January 9, 2025) The family of Start-ups at Brno University of Technology (BUT) is expanding with the Forenzio project, founded by Jan Pěnčík and David Bečkovský, experts from the Faculty of Civil Engineering (FCE BUT). The start-up offers independent professional consultancy and other services in construction for investors, developers, and property owners. Since June 2024, it has become the fourth entity to receive the contractual Start-up VUT trademark protection.

"Signing the contract with BUT opens a new chapter for Forenzio. The opportunity to use the trademark brings us greater credibility and strengthens our position in negotiations with clients and partners. At the same time, we continue transferring professional knowledge and experience from the university into practice, thereby contributing to fulfilling its third role while actively participating in societal development," said Jan Pěnčík, co-founder of the start-up and a professor at the Institute of Building Structure, FCE BUT. He also highlighted the role of contriBUTe, BUT's innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystem, which inspired the start-up's creation and in which he has been actively involved since the beginning.

Forenzio focuses on independent professional consultancy, project documentation review and audit, construction supervision, and forensic and reverse engineering. "Our goal is not only to provide top-notch professional services to customers but also to inspire colleagues from the academic environment and demonstrate that teaching can be successfully combined with science, research, and other professional activities, as they synergistically complement each other. We also want to show that the market values not only business ideas but also knowledge and expertise," added David Bečkovský, the second co-founder and an associate professor who works with Jan Pěnčík at the same faculty institute.

BUT Start-ups and Spin-offs: The University’s Showcase

The Forenzio start-up joins three projects that were included under the university trademark last year. In June, the student project TechMountain, focused on monitoring fuel leaks from railway tankers, was granted the new form of the Start-up VUT trademark. Shortly afterward, representatives of MaNoSens, which focuses on optimizing energy consumption, and BIOM Research Project, dedicated to sustainable urban development, joined the initiative.

"I am pleased that we have welcomed a new start-up at BUT. In a relatively short period, this is already the fourth project of its kind, which confirms BUT's role not only as a technical but also as an entrepreneurial university. Knowledge transfer through spin-off and start-up companies is a key priority and a showcase of the university," commented Rector Ladislav Janíček on the development.

Civil Engineering: A Promising Career with a Significant Societal Contribution

Civil engineering is one of the most important sectors of the Czech national economy. However, it faces declining interest from applicants for studies. "Thanks to projects like Forenzio, we can better present civil engineering to the public. We aim to highlight not only its societal contribution but also to showcase it as a promising field with diverse career opportunities and a stable, long-term career path. FCE BUT offers top-notch education in the field, proven over years of experience. Combined with authorization from ČKAIT, its graduates become recognized experts who significantly enrich society with their knowledge and experience," concluded Rector Janíček.
