Writefull uses artificial intelligence (AI), specifically deep learning algorithms and a large language database. It performs text-checking using language models based on millions of published academic texts. Writefull not only suggests how to improve the text, but specifically shows how words and phrases are used, and how often a word or phrase occurs and helps to compare the occurrence of two words or find out which words or synonyms are usually found in a certain context.

Writefull provides a correction:

• Vocabulary – offers alternatives to misused words or phrases.
• Grammar – check the use of prepositions, articles, verb forms, noun forms, etc.
• Style – scientific writing has its own style, Writefull will warn you if you don't follow it or if your text is too wordy.
• Punctuation – punctuation marks make text readable. Writefull corrects excessive/insufficient/incorrect use of punctuation.
• Spelling – Writefull draws on the most extensive scientific dictionary and can correct even subject-specific terms.

The following tools are part of the Writefull institutional license:

Writefull for Word is available as an add-on to Word 2019 and Office 365, and Writefull for Overleaf is also available. In addition, Writefull for Word offers a "Sentence Palette" - a searchable collection of sentences and phrases commonly used in scientific publications. They can be used for structuring and writing any kind of text.

Writefull Revise (https://revise-vut-cz.writefull.ai/) is a web-based version of Writefull, which is used for language checking of finished articles and texts created in any application or text editor. It is thus an ideal tool for checking texts before sending them to e.g. publishers, conference organizers, etc.

Writefull Cite (https://cite-vut-cz.writefull.ai/) is another web application that can identify those parts of a technical text that should be referenced. Unlike so-called anti-plagiarism systems, Writefull Cite is not based on a database of already published articles but uses linguistic algorithms and artificial intelligence.

Writefull Full Edit is based on new language models that significantly improve translation accuracy. The new Writefull models go beyond single words and revise entire sentences. In addition to proofreading grammar, spelling, vocabulary, punctuation, and style, they now offer phrase- and sentence-level proofreading. Writefull, therefore, suggests changes in word order, the use of correct words, changes in the structure of sentences and increases the clarity of the resulting text, etc.

How can you start using Full Edit?

Users using Word 2016 and later, Word Online or Mac just need to update the Writefull for Word add-on to the latest version.
