Original Abstract

The high temperature oxidation kinetics of the Fe-10Al-4Cr-4Y2O3 ODS alloy (FeAlOY) with excellent creep and oxidation resistance at temperatures exceeding 1100 degrees C is investigated at 1200 degrees C, 1300 degrees C and 1400 degrees C. A compact layer with columnar grain microstructure consisting of alpha-Al2O3 and YAG (Y3Al5O12) grains is grown at the surface. The oxidation resistance of FeAlOY is compared with other Fe-Cr-Al alloys. The oxidation mechanism and roles of individual elements in the FeAlOY are discussed in detail. Despite containing 3-4 times less Cr, the FeAlOY has the same or even better oxidation resistance when compared with classical Fe-Cr-Al alloys.
