Building materials and geology

Basic information about structure, basic building material properties and their use as building materials. Endurance and physical–mechanical properties testing methods specialized in destructive methods. Basic plastic properties of building materials and their monitoring. Building material properties of: stone, aggregates, binder, concretes, mortar, building ceramics, metals, wood, polymers and asphalts. Practice laboratory tests of selected building materials with individual entries for each student complete with seminar thesis elaborating. Acquiring of overview of rock types creating foundation soil. Internal and external activities of geological factors affecting the foundation soil behaviour and properties including the surface and ground water influence. Acquainting with evaluating methodology of foundation soils for construction consistence with actual practice requirements and European standards.

Aims

Building materials properties acquainting and practising. Acquainting with geological and building’s foundation conditions. Student will be able to realize the basic tests of various kinds of building materials.
