Artists and Issues

FaVU-AIS-ZAcad. year: 2009/2010

The course will focus on selected topics and artists who reflect them. We will look at commercionalization and institutionalization of art, the change of the role of art in the 19th and 20th centuries (the birth of the avantguardes from the spirit of enlightment), the critique of art institutions in artworks and vice versa, artworks which collaborate with the art establishment.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Academic reflection of selected problems of contemporary art, a detailed knowledge of artworks and viewpoints of selected contemporary artists.

Prerequisites

Students have to have excellen communicative skills in English. They will either have to have a credit from Upper-intermediate Englsh course at FaVU or write an entrance test.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Exam, attendance.
Students will be assesed from writing all essays, oral presentation, and regular reading of the assigned texts. Not having read those texts will count as an absence.

Aims

Students will read, analyse, and discuss articles and essays on the selected topics. They will have to be prepared for every lesson. They will be encouraged to prepare some topics themselves (under the techer's instruction).

Attendance is mandatory, students are allowed to miss two classes per semester.
