Architecture / pro-seminar

FaVU-1PARCH-LAcad. year: 2009/2010

The seminar supports the lectures in the History of Art and Architecture I in general. Getting to know architectural works, old and new art by way of "critical dissection" and reflection forms the core structure of the seminar. The students are encouraged to study ctritically, the reflect selected topics in the Brno artistic milieu and prepare presentations about them. At the same time, the present papers on relevant topics from contemporary art world.

The studens will present a paper dealing with architecture or other relevant topics.

Elementary skills and abilities to present visual data in a paper.

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations..

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Credit. The students must present the paper and be active during the seminar discussions.

Course curriculum

1. The students do independent research about architectural works in Brno in relevant bibliography. The papers should focus on the work of architecture, or on the personality of the architect; historical context must be taken in account. The ability to present the topic in an adequate verbal and visual manner (based on the student's professional orientation) is essential.
2. Contemporary art will be presented in the seminars by way of critcal reflection and discussions on the basis of indvidual approach (students will present papers).
3. Different seminar groups will reflect different topics of interest.

Aims

Stedents are led to reflect personally both old and new architecture from the point of view of an art student. They have to learn the essetial terminology, historical contexts, and to think critically. They must be able to search a particular subject fast, efficiently, and critically in various web databases, and to present these facts in a coherent way.
