English Upper-Intermediate Lower 2 (summer)

Uppre-Intermediate Lower 2 is intended for those students who had gone trough Upper-Intermediate Lower 1 (English File Upper-Intermediate - first quarter of the book) or to those who are recommended the course on an indvidual basis.
This course already corresponds to B1 - B2 levels.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

English File Upper-Intermediate Units 2b - 3c, 4b
Six - seven assigments per semester. (Reading, presentation, essays). The reading assigments are tested. Vocab and grammar test from English File at the end of the semester.
The course is between the B1 - B2 level. Students are slowly introduced to academic English.

Prerequisites

None. However, students either have to reach the appropriate score in the placement test or have obtained credits from Enlglish Intermediate course at FaVU.

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations..

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Six - seven assigments per semester. (Reading, presentation, essays). The reading assigments are tested. Vocabulary and grammar test from English File at the end of the semester. Continuous assessment - students obtain six - seven grades per semester.

Aims

At each level, students are highly encourage to COMMUNICATE. We ignore mistakes, we don't like shyness.
Maximum possible vocabulary acquired during the minimal time of 12 lessons per semester is the crucial outcome.
1. improving reading skills: authentic academic texts (art history and theory, art journalism)
2. more reading skills: authentic fiction (short stories)
3. learning writing skills: short essays, presentations. Students do not only improve grammar and syntax, but also text cohesion, logic, and overall structure.
4. improving oral presentation skills
5. improving segments of advanced gramamar

Students can miss two classes per semester.
