Students will learn about Czech and international art of the second half of the 20th century with regard to wider social context.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations..

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Exam: interview (oral exam) reflecting unmarked pictorial material which students ought to categorize, characterize and - if possible - specify other artworks of the given artist.
50% attendance at lectures. Conclusion: test above 70% and examination.

1. The Czechoslovac socialist Realism.
2. Existential tendencies in international and Czech visual art of the afterwar era.
3. Art brut, Jean Dubuffet, outsider art.
4. The May 57 and Trasa groups - Czech neoModernism.
5. Performance and Happening. Fluxus. Knížák.
6. Action Czech art of 1970s and 1980s, object, instalation, enviromennt.
7. Czech art in the 90s - the generation of artistic personalities.
8. Videoart, net art and new media.
9. Public art, political art and social intervention.
