Aims

The aim of the course is to make students familiar with the architecture of modern radio communication systems, mobile radio telephone systems and used methods of signal processing such as data coding, modulation, equalisation, diversity reception, etc.

2. Frequency bands.
3. Modulation techniques in radio communications systems.
4. Source coding (speech coding, high quality acoustics signal coding, picture signal coding).
5. Channel coding and interleaving.
6. Equalisation, Fading Channel, Diversity reception, Doppler frequency shift.
7. Concept of mobile communication systems, Multiple access systems, Mobile communication system networks topology, Frequency reuse, Layer model, Handover, Roaming.
8. Public radio telephone networks. Mobile systems overview (NMT, GSM, IS54, IS95) and their characteristics.
9. Spread spectrum techniques in recent radio communication systems.
10. Cordless telephone standards (CT2, DECT).
11. Radio paging (RDS, ERMES).
12. 2.5 generation systems (GPRS, HSCSD).
13. Introduction to 3G systems (UMTS).

6. Testing of GSM mobile station II.
7. Testing of DECT mobile station.
8. The visit to radiomobile exchange T-Mobile network (BTS, BSC, MSC, frequency planing centre, measurement technique).
