Radio Links Design

Radiocommunication services, exploitation of frequency spectrum. Conditions of radiocommunication, quality and reliability. Terrain profile and obstacle losses. Digital model of terrain, computer aided design. Passive repeaters. Service area of broadcast and TV transmitters, statistic estimate of signal level. Microwave links. Radio-relay links, effects of fading in analogue and digital links, diversity. Mobile radio networks, cellular structures, transmission channels, operation in cellular networks, effect of terrain and buildings. Design of ionospheric links, optimization of operating frequency, field strength, fading and reliability of ionospheric communication. Limits of radiation, project documentation.

Aims

The aim of the course is to make students familiar with the basic kinds of radio links and networks, conditions of communication, quality and reliability of radio links, frequency planning, calculation of field strength in real terrain and urban area, methods for interference suppression, limits of radiation, design of basic kinds of radio links and networks, computer aided design, project documentation.
