Course detail

Machine Design - Mechanical Drives

FSI-6KTAcad. year: 2009/2010

The course is focused on analytical calculations of machine parts for transmission of torque from a driving machine to a driven machine. Also discussed are calculation of friction gears, geared transmissions, belt gears, cable gears and chain gears.

Language of instruction

Czech

Number of ECTS credits

4

Mode of study

Not applicable.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will be familiarized with basic methods used in machine design. The emphasis is laid on machine parts used for the transmission of torque.

Prerequisites

Students are required to have the knowledge of Fundamentals of Design, Material Science and of Mechanics of solids, which they have obtained in their previous study at FME BUT. Also the knowledge obtained from the course Machine Design - Machine Elements is assumed.

Co-requisites

Not applicable.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Terms of the course-unit credit: Written solution of semestral project (maximal number of points is 40, minimal number of points necessary for course-unit credit is 20).
Examination requirements: Exam is carried out on electronic testing system. Test with possibility of answers selection is based on lectures and tutorial topics. Maximal number of points obtained from test is 60. Minimal number of points for passing the test is 30. Total number of points is sum of points obtained from semestral project and points obtained from exam test. Minimal number of points is 50 and maximal number of points is 100.

Aims

The aim of the course is to inform students about approaches of machine design – transformation ideas into real technical objects (machines). The course extends the knowledge obtained from the course Machine design - Machine Elements and it is focused on analytical solutions of machine parts intended for torque transmition from driving machine to driven machine. Especially mechanical gears are solved (toothed gears, chain gears, belt gears, cable gears, friction gears).

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Participation in lectures is recommended, participation at seminars is checked and recorded - two absences are allowed.

Recommended optional programme components

Not applicable.
