Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will develop the ability to speak English fluently and confidently, especially in less formal contexts. The activities will also increase the students' sensitivity to the way conversations work.

Prerequisites

The subject knowledge on the secondary school level is required.

The following topics will be covered in the class:

NOBODY NEEDS A GUN
Gun Massacres in schools. Why do people keep guns? Would you ever use a gun?

SWEARING
Is it ok to swear? What swear words do / could you use? In what situations would you swear? What about women and swearing?

OLD ENOUGH TO BE HER GRANDFATHER!
A 70 -year -old man marrries a 25 -year -old girl - is it ok? Why not?

SEX FOR SALE
Prostitution - shall we get rid of it?

THE RIGHT TO DIE
Euthanasia - who has the right to choose?

ADDICTIONS
Alcohol, smoking, drugs, chocolate, shopping, football - what are we hooked on ?

SPORT AND MONEY
Are top sports professionals overpaid?

TELLING LIES
Are we honest? How honest are we? How to tell the truth? When to hide it?

IT SHOULD BE BANNED!
Bullfighting, human cloning, boxing, the Ku Klux Klan - shall we ban them all?

CHILDREN WHO KILL
Who is to blame when children kill someone - the child, the parents, society?

NOT MY TYPE
Biting nails, thin legs, bad complexion - what do you avoid in a partner?

MARRIAGE - FOR BETTER OR FOR WORSE?
Does it make any sense to get married nowadays? What is wrong with divorce?

THE SALE OF HUMAN ORGANS
Would you let doctors take out your organs? What about people who sell their organs?
