Learning outcomes of the course unit

The basic skill of industrial design students is to link the design of a product appearance with its technical aspects.

Prerequisites

Students are assumed to have the knowledge of fundamentals of design, material science, mechanics of solids, design of machines and machine elements which they have obtained in previous part of their study at FME BUT.

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Terms of the graded course-unit credit: regular participation at seminars, solving all assignments and passing the written test of topics presented at lectures.

Aims

The objective of the course is for students to acquire the knowledge of calculation and design of machine parts.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Participation in lectures is recommended; participation at seminars is checked and recorded. Education runs according to the week schedule. The way of compensation of missed seminars is specified by the tutor.

3. Geometry of spur involute gears with non-standard tooth profile.
4. Internal spur gears.
5. Planetary gear mechanisms.
6. Basic types of gear failure.

8. Calculation of load capacity of worm gears.
9. Bevel gears.
10. Calculation of load capacity of bevel gears.
11. Design of mechanical couplings I.
12. Design of mechanical couplings II.
13. Design of hydraulical and pneumatical couplings.

Syllabus

1.-13. The project will include design and calculation of two-speed gearbox. Technical drawings will be ploted in 2D.
