English Intermediate Lower 2 (summer)

Intermediate Lower 2is intended for those students who had gone trough Intermediate lowee 1 (New Opportunities Intermediate units 1 - 10,) or to those who are recommended the course on an indvidual basis. The course prepares the students for the B1 Lower exam, which thez take at the end of the semester.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations..

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

In order to successfully finish the course, the student must have an average score from ALL tests minimum 70%, must write the assigned essay plus the possible re-write, and must only two absences per semester. Continuous assessment - students obtain six - seven grades per semester. Only after passing all the tests with the min. average score of 70% and after handing in the semester asssignments, students are allowed to take the final B1higher exam, which they have to write at the minimum score of 50%.

Aims

Students of courses on all intermediate levels improve their knowledge of grammar (conditionals, tenses, etc), widen their vocabulary (synonyms, phrasal verbs, idioms, etc---), develop their written English (short essays), practice reading longer texts (1 - 2 Readers on the corresponding level each semester], and practice listenting to authentic English (one film in the summer semester in all Intermediate English courses].

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Students are allowed two absences per semester. For all other absences, the student must have a note from his or her doctor.
