General Toxicology

The science of toxicology. Terminology of toxicology, History. The explanation of the relation of dose - effec, mechamism of toxic effects, factors influencing toxic effects, characteristics of of toxic effects, basic principles. The chemical compounds interaction. Mechanism of chemical compounds penetrating to organism. Toxicologic kinetice (primary contact, absorption, transport, excretion). The biotransformation of toxic compounds, factors influencing the biotransformation. The causation of demage of cells, tissues, organism and species levels. The main types of toxic effects. The evaluation of toxicity. The summary of the toxicology of inorganic and organic elements, compounds. The view of therapy, antidots. The classification of chemical compounds in CZ and EU, actual legislative. The sources of information, the information system of toxicology.

Course curriculum

1. The term toxicology within the context of natural sciences, basic definitions, history. The classification of toxicology and basic chararcteristics of toxicological disciplines.
2. Definitions of terms. Toxicity - toxic compounds, toxicological indexes. Toxic effect (type and chararcteristics).
3. Expositions. Dose - relation of dose and effects. toxicological interactions of chemicals.
4. Factors influencing toxic effects (physical, chemical, biological factors).
5. Toxicology on the level of cell, organs, organism, species. The transport across biomembranes.
6. Toxokinetics - interaction of toxic compounds with organism (primary contact, absorption, distribution and transport of ctoxic compounds in organisms, excretion).
7. The basic principles of biotransformation, phase and factors influencing of biotransformation.
8. The toxic effects on organ level (mechanismus, manifestation).
9. Mutagenesis, carcinogenesis, teratogenesis, karcinogeneze, reproductive and developmental toxicity.
10. The evaluation of toxicity.
11. The basic toxicologicl chararcteristics of inorganic and organic compounds.
12. The view of therapy, antidots. The chemical legislation in Czech Republic and EU, toxicological classification of chemicals and compounds. Sources of information in toxicology.
