Special Toxicology

The science of Toxicology. Terminology of Toxicology. Principles of toxicology. The relation of dose - effect. Mechanimsusu of toxic effects. Manifestations of molecular, cell and organ toxicity. Toxicological characteristics of metals, inorganic and organic compounds. The basic toxicology of hazardous environmental pollutants
Toxicological characteristics of fungal, plant, animal toxins, mechanismus and effects. Carcinogenesis, mutagenesis, teratogenesis (molecular mechanism of processes, natural and synthetic mutagenic and carcinogenic agents).Radiotoxicology, chemical warfare agents. The toxicological classification of chemical compounds in CZ and EU, actual legislation.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Knowledges in the field on Special toxicology - toxicology of elements, hazardous metals, inorganic, organic compounds, environmnetal polutants, fungal, plant and animal toxins. Carcinogenesis, mutagenesis, teratogenesis, oxidative stress. Toxikological classification of chemicals and products in Czech Republic nad EU.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledges of general toxicology, inorganic, organic chemistry, environmental chemistry, biochemistry.

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Course curriculum

1. Introduction of Special Toxikology, Contents, Terminology, Principles (Exposure, Dose, Toxicity, Limits).
2. The interaction of toxic compounds wit organism. Manifestations of molecular, cell and organ toxicity.
3. Mechanismus of toxic effets, pathways of toxic compounds and metabolites.
4. Toxicology of elements, hazardous metals, inorganic compounds, mechanism of interactions of metals in body, transport and metabolism.
5. Toxicology organic and organometallic compounds.
6. Toxicology of environmnetal poltants.
7. Toxicology of funagal tonis.
8. Natural plant toxins, toxicological important plant.
9. Natural zootoxins.
10. Carcinogenesis, mutagenesis, teratogenesis (molecular mechanism of processes, inhibitors, inductors, natural and synthetic mutagenic and carcinogenic agents), Teratogenesis, teratogene. The oxidative stress, reactive oxygen species (ROS) - free radicals, reactive anions, antioxidant protection.
11. Radiotoxicology. Biophysical/biological effect of mechanisms, and health effects of radionuclides. Chemical warfare agents.
12. The classification of chemical compounds in CZ and EU, actual legislative of chemicals.

Getting deeper knowledges of toxicology of elements, hazardous metals, inorganic, organic and complex compounds. The toxicology of environmental pollutants, fungal, plant and animal toxins. Basic information of chemical warfare agents. Information of toxicological classification in CZech Republic and EU.
