Course detail

Thermal Protection of Buildings

FAST-BH10Acad. year: 2009/2010

Thermal protection of buildings deals with the protection of buildings against an influence of otdoor climate changes. The assessment of thermal properties of building constructions and energy conscious design limit technical defects and deficiencies and give the possibility for indoor thermal comfort and low-energy consumption in buildings.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will attend the fundamendals in building thermal physics with respect to technical standards and regulations valid for indoor thermal comfort climate and energy saving demands for the design of building envelopes. They will also receive fundamental information conditions of building acoustics and daylighting evaluations.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of mathematics, knowledge of basic physical quantity and thermal technical characteristic of building materials, inception of sound, basic concepts of wave, physical characteristics of sound, quantity of sound field, principles of photometry.

Requirements for successful completion of the subject are specified by guarantor’s regulation updated for every academic year.

Course curriculum

1. Fundamentals in heat transfer. Thermal comfort in buildings.
2. Steady state heat flux, U-value determination.
3. Temperature profile for steady state conditions.Risk of a surface condensation and mould grows, critical surface temperature and humidity, dew point temperature.
4-5. Assessment and determination of condensation regions into structures. Annual balance of condensated and evaporated amounts in the structure.
6. Non-steady state heat flux. Floor surface temperature drop.
7. Thermal stability of rooms.
8. Energy consumption in buildings.
9. Sound and visual comfort in rooms.
10. Construction design in term of required charakteristics of heat insulation and sound insulation.
11. Design of windows and doors. Requirements in term of heat engineering, acoustics, day lighting and insolation.
12. Critical details of structures in winter in term of heat engineering.
13. Report of the energy efficiency and thermal protection of buildings (enclosure of the project docummentation)

Aims

Construction must be design for so that not happen to rise of the heat technical deficienty or dificiency. Must be fulfil requirements of regulation No. 137/1998 digest and CSN 73 0540-2:2002 from the viewpoint of the thermal cover of buildings and must be securing of low energy costingness of designing building and requisite thermal microclimate, divisive construction must be design from the viewpoint of demands on air-borne and structure-borne sound insulation, design of aperture panes with respect to reservation requisite lighting of interior with daylight, ensure of requisite insolation in living buildings
