BUT has a new management
BUT has a new management
On the first day of February, a new rector, Ladislav Janíček, will take over the management of the Brno University of Technology, replacing Petr Štěpánek after eight years. He took the lead with his team, which consists of candidates for Vice-Rector for Studies Miroslav Doupovec, Vice-Rector for Research, and Development and Creative Activities Martin Weiter, Vice-Rector for Internationalization Iveta Šimberová, Vice-Rector for External Affairs Milan Houser, Vice-Rector for Knowledge Transfer Jan Pěnčík and Chancellor Kamil Gregorek. The new BUT management aims to support internationalization in education, excellence and competitiveness in research, strengthen knowledge transfer and representation of BUT in key representations.

BUT Rector Ladislav Janíček
Associate Professor Ladislav Janíček is a graduate of BUT and of studies at the British Nottingham Trent University. He has been teaching at the Institute of Aviation, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, BUT for thirty-one years, he also lectures at the Faculty of Economics and Administration of Masaryk University. In the past, he served as Quaestor or Vice-Rector of Masaryk University, and for eight years he was the Quaestor of the Brno University of Technology. His hobbies include music, traveling and sport shooting. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Leoš Janáček Foundation and the Czech Antarctic Foundation. He is married and has three children.
Vice-Rector for Studies Miroslav Doupovec
He was born in 1960, with the professional focus in mathematics. He has been working at BUT since 1986. Professor Doupovec managed the preparation and implementation of the system of institutional accreditations, and at the same time ensured the introduction of related accompanying systems, including the evaluation of study programmes or teaching. He works in the commissions of the National Accreditation Office and in a number of scientific councils and councils for internal evaluation. In the past, he worked as the Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at BUT and for the last eight years he has been the Vice-Rector for Studies at BUT.
Vice-Rector for Research, and Development and Creative Activities Martin Weiter
He was born in 1971, with the professional focus in chemistry. He has been working at BUT since 2002, until recently he held the position of the Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry. Here he leads a research team in the field of materials research, at the same time establishing a number of partnerships in applied research. Professor Weiter promotes balanced cooperation with industrial partners. He is an evaluator of projects and their outputs through various providers, e.g. GA CR, TA CR, he is also an evaluator of international projects. He is the winner of the BUT Rector's Award.
Vice-Rector for Internationalization Iveta Šimberová
Born in 1963, Associate Professor Šimberová is dedicated to economics and management. She has been working at BUT since 1994. She is the coordinator or co-researcher of international projects and grants. She is the initiator of several international associations. In 2012, she was appointed by the Academy of Sciences in Latvia as an expert for the evaluation of university degree programmes in economics and management. In recent years, she has been working as the Vice-Dean for Foreign Affairs at the Faculty of Business and Management.
Vice-Rector for Knowledge Transfer Jan Pěnčík
Associate Professor Pěnčík was born in 1973 and is an expert in the field of civil engineering and structural mechanics. He has been working at BUT since 1999. He has personal experience in coordinating economic activities at the faculty in the field of contract research, expert activities in the field of construction, the process of preparation, filing applications and obtaining utility models of Czech and European patents. He is the winner of the Josef Hlávka Award. He comes to the Rector's Office from the position of the Vice-Dean for Internal and International Affairs of the Faculty of Civil Engineering.
Vice-Rector for External Affairs Milan Houser
He was born in 1971, his domain is the fine arts. He has been working at BUT since 2008. He focuses on abstract painting intertwining with object creation. He held the position of the Chairman of the Association of Art Faculties, also serves on the commissions of the National Accreditation Office and is a member of a number of scientific and artistic councils. He manages projects focused on the cooperation of universities with public partners and on the presentation of educational and creative activities. He is the holder of the PollockKrasner Foundation Scholarship. In the past, Associate Professor Houser held the position of the Vice-Dean for Construction and Dislocation as well as the position of the Dean himself at the Faculty of Fine Arts.
