Almost half a million of classic plastic cups is used yearly by students and other visitors of BUT canteens. Since 2019 university wants to make a change and use eco-friendly plastic cups and in the future paper cups only. Another positive change will be done in larger canteens: instead of bottled water students will be able to fill water into their own bottles from new water dispensers. This machine was already installed at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and in half a year saved more than 38 thousands (approx. 1 ton) of plastic bottles.

More eco-friendly attitude should become a part of BUT canteens’ official long-term plan. One of the goals will be to decrease the water consumption. Students have already started with volunteering in eco-area. Every year they participate in traditional activity called Odpadkobraní, during which they collect waste in defined area.
