Brno University of Technology ended up among the seven best participants of a prestigious Czech Top 100 competition in the Health-Education-Humanity category. At a gala evening held in the Spain Hall of the Prague castle on 26th November 2010, rector of BUT Karel Rais was given the prize. Since the competition started fourteen years ago, this has been the first time that BUT got on its list as the only Czech university.
The purpose of the nationwide Czech Top 100 is to find, propagate, and publicly reward companies registered in the Czech Republic carrying out a wide range of business activities and achieving excellent, extraordinary, or positively remarkable results. The system used to judge the participants is based in a maximum degree on the expertise of a wide range of selected experts.
Having received 5 billion CZK in funding from the EU Structural Funds, BUT is one of the most successful Czech universities in this respect. The funds received are mostly used for the development of the materials technology scientific infrastructure and for building top European research teams.
BUT can also rely on cooperation with industries. Several gold medals won by the BUT exhibits at Brno international fairs testify to this. The Marabu aircraft built by a team of BUT scientists and students in cooperation with Evektor may be taken as the best example.
