BRNO 31. 1. 2012 - Building of the new premises for Research Centre of Information Technology in BUT Faculty of Information Technology campus at Bozetechova street was confirmed today by the ceremonial tapping on the foundation stone. Part of the biggest Czech supercomputer IT4Innovations and many research laboratories will be located in this building.
New building will serve for the Research Centre of Information Technology. Czech and foreign researchers will focus among other things on safety research (e.g. processing of audiovisual data, speaker and language identification from audio recordings, detection of people and objects in videos, reducing cyber crime) or 3D computer models of human tissue and implants as a modern way of cure. Research centre will be built as a part of supercomputer project IT4Innovations on which next to Brno University of Technology (BUT) participate other 4 scientific subjects. A part of new, very powerful supercomputer (which is being built at VŠB-TUO in Ostrava*) will be located in the building. „Our centre will serve as a connection to supercomputer in Ostrava. We will cooperate with local subjects interested in supercomputer simulation, such as the St. Anne´s University Hospital in Brno – International centre of clinical research or the project CEITEC“, explains Jaroslav Zendulka, dean of BUT Faculty of Information Technology.
„Building of the Research Centre of Information Technology will be finished next year and should be fully operable in 2014“, comments BUT rector, Karel Rais.
IT4Innovations is a unique project which aims to build a national centre of excellence for research in information technology. This newly built centre will enable to improve the concentration of many IT-related scientific fields and their development. Part of the project will be acquisition of very powerful supercomputer, that should be put into operation in 2014 and it should be at that time included among the TOP 100 supercomputers in the world. Supercomputer will be built in Ostrava and smaller part of its technology will be located in Brno within the Research Centre of Information Technology. Project IT4Innovations is realized by five subjects: VŠB – Technical University of Ostrava, Brno University of Technology, University of Ostrava, Silesian University in Opava and Institute of Geonics AS CR.
