The crews of Brno University of Technology (BUT) succeeded this year at the traditional Osmy Brno race, winning all the categories in which they competed. In the ninth edition of the competition on the Svratka River, VUT confirmed its strong position in academic rowing and successfully represented Brno universities.Autor: Milan HouserOn 26 October 2024, the 9th annual Osmy Brno race took place, a prestigious event within the Czech University Rowing Cup. This traditional race on the Svratka River, dating back to 1937, is attended by Brno universities and once again attracted attention as one of the most significant academic rowing events in the Czech Republic.
The 1000-meter racecourse on the Svratka River, filled with bends and natural obstacles, starts under the bridge in Brno-Komín and ends at the Jundrov Bridge. This year, only Brno universities entered the race – BUT, MENDELU, and MUNI. VUT formed the following crews: men's eight (Dan Juřík, Juraj Kříž, Adam Dalibor Jurčík, Václav Kostříž, Kryštof Bláha, Karel Koreček, Matěj Račanský, Tomáš Vodička Petra Jakšová – coxswain), women's four with coxswain (Annamária Vácziová, Tereza Hrbáčková, Petra Jakšová, Helena Šuláková, Adam Dalibor Jurčík – coxswain), and men's four with coxswain (Juraj Kříž, Lukáš Preisler, Dan Juřík, Tereza Hrbáčková – coxswain). All BUT crews won in their categories.The program also included a university eights match BUT – MUNI. This year's victory went to the rowers of BUT.The race, organized by the Czech Rowing Club Brno z.s., is based at the Dragon Boats boathouse and BUT in Jundrov. With support from partners like the Czech Rowing Association and the Sports Activity Center BUT, the race once again drew the attention of sports fans and showcased the strength of academic rowing tradition in Brno.
