For the first time this year, Brno University of Technology participated in the running race around the Brno Reservoir, Saucony Vokolo Priglu. The 13th edition of this traditional sporting event expanded this year with the Academic Wave – a running competition between Brno’s universities. A total of 42 runners from among students and employees of BUT set off on the challenging 14.1 km course on Saturday, October 12, wearing the university jerseys of BUT.
Technicians on the track: BUT debuts at Vokolo Priglu! | Autor: Monika HlaváčováThe Vokolo Priglu race, a traditional finale to the summer running season, is open to the general public across all performance and age groups. The runners tackled a slightly undulating course over 14 km in the beautiful surroundings of the Brno Reservoir. The start and finish of the race for individuals, relays, and corporate teams were at Kozí Horka, where a race village is erected every year. The course is approximately 85% on asphalt and 15% on paths or rocky trails.
47 runners registered for the race. In the unified jerseys, a total of 42 BUT representatives lined up at the start – 23 students and 19 employees from across the university. 5 runners could not participate due to health reasons. But the race around the reservoir isn’t just about competitive performances and records – it’s also for amateur and hobby runners. Everyone enjoyed the pleasant atmosphere and autumn-colored nature.
The best placement in the overall standings of the Vokolo Priglu 2024 race among men was by student Vítek Mikulášek from FIT (38th place) and employee Vojtěch Uhlíř from CEITEC and FSI (62nd place). Among women, the best finisher was Eva Hyánková from FAST in 46th place overall, while the best time among female students was by Nicole Černeková from FCH in 117th place. In the absolute race standings, Vítek Mikulášek was the best with his time, finishing in 42nd place.Technicians on the track: BUT debuts at Vokolo Priglu! | Autor: Monika WinklerováIn the Academic Wave, Brno University of Technology measured its strength and endurance against Masaryk University and the University of Defence. The university ranking was based on the top 10 times for each university. MUNI took 1st place and the traveling boat trophy during the ceremonial announcement, BUT took 2nd place, and 3rd place went to UNOB competitors.
