The Rector heads the BUT and is its highest representative and statutory body. He is responsible for the strategy and long-term conceptual development of the university. He is the guarantor of academic freedoms, values, principles and ethics. He represents the BUT externally and is also a member of the school's representation within the Czech Rectors' Conference. The Rector determines the composition of the BUT leadership by appointing and dismissing the Bursar, Vice-Rectors and Chancellor. By law, he holds the position of Chairman of the Scientific Council of the BUT and the Internal Evaluation Council of the BUT.
