BREXIT

31 January 2020 the UK left the European Union. The current version of the withdrawal agreement provides a transitional period until the end of 2020. Based on the withdrawal agreement, no changes will be introduced in the existing rights during the transitional period for British citizens and their family members who have resided in the Czech Republic so far. Also, after the end of the transitional period, they will be citizens of the United Kingdom and their family members as well and they will retain existing rights associated with a stay in the Czech Republic.

The Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic recommends and strongly urges UK citizens residing in the Czech Republic wishing to reside after 31 December 2020 to proceed:

• if they have been or wish to reside for more than three months, to apply for a certificate of temporary stay (more information at http://www.mvcr.cz/clanek/obcane-eu-a-jejich-rodinniprislusnici.aspx)
• if they have lived here for at least five years, to apply for a permanent residence permit (more information at http://www.mvcr.cz/mvcren/article/eu-citizens-and-their-family-members-permanentresidence.aspx)
