  • easy procedure
  • registration at VZP covers costs by doctor

Non-EU students

Any foreigner who enters the territory of the Czech Republic and will stay there for more than 90 days, is obliged to take out travel health insurance in the scope of comprehensive health care within 90 days after entering the territory.

The obligation does not apply to foreigners who are participants in public health insurance, or are reimbursed for health care based on an international agreement or are holders of valid EHIC (EEA countries and Switzerland, „blue card“) and GHIC (United Kingdom) health insurance cards.

From September, 2023 the provision of comprehensive medical insurance for foreigners in the Czech Republic is changing. From now on it is possible to arrange travel and medical insurance in the scope of comprehensive health care with any insurance company authorised in the Czech Republic.

  • This obligation has to be fulfilled within visa application.

Turkey, Croatia, Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro

  • Students from these countries do not need above mentioned type of insurance policy
  • They have to provide form E111 provided by their home insurance company and register to General Health Insurance Company (VZP)
More information can be found here.

Employees

You will be required to pay health and social insurance from your salary unless you have other income outside the Czech Republic. If you also work outside the Czech Republic, you have to to fill up the A1 form and declare in which country you will pay your health and social insurance.

Recommended for EU nationals and mandatory for non-EU nationals is to take out a travel insurance to cover the time between the date of the arrival in the Czech Republic and the date when the employment starts. This is also mandatory as well for all family members from non-EU countries during the whole stay in the Czech Republic.
