Long-term residence permit for the purpose of STUDIES

Application for a long term residence can be filed at a Czech Embassy abroad.

You must fulfil the purpose of your stay for the whole duration of your residence permit. If you hold this type of a valid residence permit, you can leave and re-enter the Czech Republic terittory repeatedly. You can also travel within Schengen Area without a visa.

If you are staying in the Czech Republic based on long-term residence parmit based on your studies, you can work in the Czech Republic without any additional permit (free access to the labour market). 

Necessary documents:

• Valid travel document
• Photograph, not necessary if a pictorial recording has been made of the foreign national
• Proof of accommodation
• An original of a confirmation of studies or confirmation of enrollment
• Proof of funds for the residence
• Document similar to an extract from the Penal Register record issued by the state of which you are a citizen

Upon request you are further obliged to submit

• Medical Report

If the insurance is taken out abroad, an officially certified translation into the Czech language of the insurance contract and the general insurance conditions shall also be submitted at the same time. The proof of premium payment shall also be provided upon request at the Deapartment of Asylum and Migration Policy.

Upon submitting your application you must pay a consular fee 2,500 CZK. 

Extension of visa
If you keep on studying at he university in an accredited study programme you can extend your long-term residence repeatedly within a maximum extension period of 2 years.

Student Mode

The project „Student Mode“ is the concept of visa facilitation for international students from selected third countries who are admitted to study at selected universities within the Czech Republic. The goal of Student Mode is to accelerate access to the relevant embassy for an applicant seeking a long-term visa/residence permit for the purpose of studies. Placing an applicant on the list of the Student Mode does not guarantee a positive processing of the visa application.
