Multimediální data jsou velmi cenná svým informačním obsahem. Extrakce informací o obsahu takových dat je však poměrně obtížné a výpočetně náročné a je proto jedním z hlavních směrů výzkum v oblasti informačních technologií (IT) zejména v posledním desetiletí. Prezentace informací obsažených v takových datech je též náročnou úlohou a je předmětem intenzivního výzkumu. Tvorba nových algoritmů či efektivní implementace systémů v rozpoznávání a prezentaci multimediálních dat mohou vést k efektivnějšímu využití výpočetní techniky.

Multimedia data is very valuable source of information. Extraction of information, however, is very complex and computationally expensive problem and so it is one of the important directions in information technology (IT) in the last decade. Presentation and visualization of such information is also a demanding task and is sublect of intensive research as well. New algorithms and efficient implementations can lead into more efficient exploitation of computer technology.
