On the project
In 1971, the memristor was introduced into the circuit theory, and the discovery of a solid-state device with memristor behavior in the Hewlett-Packard laboratories was announced in 2008. The memristor is considered a key memory element for the future computer industry. It is also one of the so-called higher-order elements (HOEs) which are organized in Chua´s periodical table. From this table, only the resistor, capacitor, inductor, and their “memory-versions” – memristor, memcapacitor, and meminductor – have hitherto been given names. A strong application potential of the HOEs is responsible for the increasing number of theoretical works being produced in assorted areas, for example in biological systems, nanotechnologies, and artificial intelligence. The substance of the project consists in researching into the fundamental regularities and principles occurring in systems which contain the HOEs. The final aim is to unfold the regularities to a degree that enables a full-scale inclusion of these circuit elements in the existing system of fundamental elements in the circuit theory.
KeywordsHigher-order elements, memristor, memcapacitor, meminductor, constitutive relation, pinched hysteresis loop, nonvolatile memory.
