On the project
Description in EnglishThe project deals with the analysis of behaviour of composites based on inorganic matrices under extreme conditions (chemically aggressive environment and extreme temperatures). These include the composites primarily intended for building industry. Under extreme conditions, the matrices created by hydration of currently used standard binders (e.g. Portland cement, etc.) show relatively considerable limits in terms of their behaviour and life time. The detailed analysis of mechanisms of their degradation provides a tool to eliminate such negative influences. Another promising approach consists in the research in the field of binders with different principles of reinforcement. For example, the materials known as alkali-activated materials show a marked potential, especially for specific applications. With respect to their structure, the aforesaid materials lie on the boundary between the traditional hydrated inorganic binders, glassy and ceramic materials. Therefore, they are predetermined to become binders very appropriate for composite materials designed for extreme environments.
