On the project

The main propose of this research project is to investigate transmutation reactions in experimental samples of thorium and cobalt. The applicant will prepare the experimental samples of 59Co and Th for a transmutation experiment. These samples will be irradiated at the QUINTA setup at the JINR Phasotron accelerator with energy of protons 660 MeV. After irradiation, the samples will be measured with the use of high-purity germanium semiconductor detector. Reaction rates for residual isotope production will be measured and compared with calculations of the MCNPX 2.7 code.
