Project detail
ATHENA - MAGNETIC DIVERTER
Duration: 1.3.2018 — 30.9.2021
Funding resources
Neveřejný sektor - European space agency (Evropská kosmická agentura)
On the project
To design and realise a demonstrator model for the ATHENA magnetic diverter system, and verify performance, manufacturability, and environmental compliance.A magnetic diverter is needed to prevent charged particles entering the ATHENA telescope through the mirror from reaching the focal planes with energies in the measurement band (0.2 - 15 keV). Initial study of the magnetic diverter for ATHENA has resulted in selection of a twin Halbach array located ~1m<>1.6m from the focal planes, composed of high- strength neodymium magnets, totalling ~100 kg in mass.
