Project detail
SmartCool - Smart controlled actuator to homogenize the temperature at the transfer bar
Duration: 1.7.2022 — 31.12.2025
Funding resources
Evropská unie - The Research Fund for Coal and Steel
On the project
Most European HSM already equipped with transfer bar cooling units face asymmetric thermal profile mainly over the width detrimental to the flatness and on the mechanical properties. The implementation of a new smart controlled actuator coupled with a robust temperature profile measurement will lead to an intelligent control of the transfer bar temperature along the width (and the length). This technique will lead to better strip steering in the finishing mill and will reduce the number of rolling incidents, i.e. cobbles. AHSS and future micro-alloyed steel grades are concerned as they require precise temperature control over the entire process.
